What could possibly go wrong in the home of an extravagant London housewife (Anya Pencheva) who, with the help of a young fashion designer (Ivan Zhuntovski), is preparing a surprise for her husband Roger (Veselin Plachkov)? How will the living room of this respectable home turn into an arena of romantic misunderstandings, drawing in her friend Daisy (Viktoria Koleva) and her utterly unsuspecting husband (Georgi Angelov)? And how will a French painter (Mihail Ludin) end up at the epicentre of this comic farce? Are there victims of romantic deception? Or will we cheerfully conclude that sometimes lovers are simply in surplus?
For the first time on the stage of the Pleven theatre:
The glittering comedy „An Excess of Lovers“ was written in the early 1990s by the master of English humour Robin Hawdon. It is a classic situation comedy, full of lavish humour, vitality and numerous spicy twists around two traditional English families and their possible or impossible lovers. The action unfolds over the course of an hour in the home of an otherwise apparently pious family, into which a fake plumber, a French painter, a former rugby player and an exotic designer unexpectedly stumble… Surprises lie ahead!
The British author Robin Hawdon began his rapid career as a playwright back in the mid-1980s. He is one of the most adept comedy authors, a master of farce, unexpected twists and lively, dynamic dialogue. In the tradition of English humour, his characters are talkative, colourful, full-blooded and inventive. To this day Robin Hawdon’s comedies have been translated into more than 20 languages and successfully staged all over the world.
